My boyfriend wants an electric guitar. I’m hoping to find a beautiful blue one that has nice sound and is good to learn on, that will grow with him, in terms of him getting better. He is a beginner, but I don’t want to buy him a cheapo crappo guitar. I’d like to spend somewhere between $300 and $700. I’ve been looking at some more in the $700 range, but should probably not spend that much. Any suggestions?
I was looking at http://www.guitarcenter.com/Epiphone-Les-Paul-Standard-Plus-Top-Electric-Guitar-518341-i1149990.gc that one because people seemed to really like it but that’s where i got the $700 from. The blue one is gourg and I’ve read it’s a great guitar for the price. What would be a step or two down from that?

I’m a folk fingerpicking style guitar player who uses a lot of alternate tunings. Recently, I’ve started to assemble a band, and I like the idea of getting a more electric sound (I currently use an acoustic/electric). I’ve got a Fender Tele that was nice when I was playing in rock bands, but it seriously cannot handle my lower tunings (I go as low as drop-C) when I fingerpick.

Are there any electric guitars (hollowbodies, maybe?) that might be suitable for my kind of playing?
